Claude Puel: 'Jose Mourinho may struggle to get star players to work together'

Southampton boss Claude Puel questions Jose Mourinho's ability to ensure that all of his star players work well together.

Southampton manager Claude Puel has questioned Jose Mourinho's ability to keep his star players at Manchester United working well together.

The Red Devils broke the world transfer record to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus for an £89m fee earlier this month.

Pogba joined Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan through the welcome gates at Old Trafford this summer, while Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial are among the big names already at the club.

"Pogba has qualities and is a different player who can make a difference in an offensive game and also defensive," Puel told reporters. "He is always dangerous on the run, but I don't know how his manager can make all these great players work together.

"It is difficult to remain a collective and to have two or three players for every position on the pitch. I'm sure they can be one of the favourites to win the championship, but I hope we can slow them down and take one or all three points from Manchester United.

"The most important thing for us is not to consider them as a great team with great players but to consider them as opponents with good opportunities to make a good game and to make a good result."

Southampton will go head to head with United at Old Trafford this evening in the first Friday night Premier League game of the season.
