Gary Neville: 'Anthony Martial going under the radar'

Gary Neville accuses Manchester United forward Anthony Martial of "going under the radar".

Gary Neville has criticised Manchester United forward Anthony Martial for being "nowhere near good enough" so far this season.

The 20-year-old moved to Old Trafford in 2015 for a fee worth £58m with bonuses and had an impressive debut campaign, scoring four goals in his first four games and finishing the season as the club's top scorer.

Amid personal troubles off the field, Martial's form has dipped this season and he has just one goal to his name from seven Premier League games to date.

"There's someone going under the radar," Neville told Sky Sports News. "They signed a player 18 months ago for £55m and to be honest in the last six, seven, eight months he's not delivered.

"[Jose] Mourinho said he's trained well these past few weeks but he now needs to start performing on the pitch because at £55m, you think about the scrutiny players come under at this club, Martial has gone under the radar and needs to start delivering.

"Some of the performances have been nowhere near good enough. His work rate's not good enough as far as I can see."

United manager Mourinho gave the Frenchman a starting berth this afternoon as his side welcomed fierce rivals Arsenal to Old Trafford.
