Gary Neville believes that Shinji Kagawa will be a better player for Manchester United next season.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville is confident that Shinji Kagawa will prove his worth next season.

The Japan international had an inconsistent campaign with the Red Devils since moving from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but Neville believes that there is much more to come from the 24-year-old.

"He will be better next season," Neville told the club's official website. "Towards the end of this season he showed glimpses of what he could do. He is an intelligent player with good energy, he can spot a run and his own runs are excellent.

"He is tidy on the ball, he can get out of tight situations and I think we will see more of a goalscoring influence and a final-third impact next season."

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has admitted that he prefers to play as a striker as opposed to the deeper role he was given numerous times last season.
