Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho urges fans not to overshadow their upcoming clash with Liverpool by mocking tragedies suffered by either club.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has urged supporters to respect each other during Monday night's match against Liverpool at Anfield.

Past meetings between the two sides have been soured by chants directed at tragedies suffered by either club, with both being fined for the behaviour of their fans during their Europa League clash last season.

Monday will mark Mourinho's first visit to Anfield as United boss, and he is hopeful that the fans will limit their chants to matters on the field.

"In football you have some football tragedies. You lose a big match or make a mistake. You can make fun of it," he told reporters.

"Human tragedy is something much more serious. It is the last thing someone should use in a football pitch. Really big tragedies are serious.

"I will be really sad if in such a big football match that was a negative point."

Three points currently separate the two sides in the Premier League table.
