Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has hit out at manager Louis van Gaal and has claimed that the Red Devils are having an "identity crisis".
The former Fulham manager believes that the United boss should have the team "playing better" and reveals that the Dutchman isn't his "cup of tea".
"I find it a big surprise that Van Gaal has not managed yet to make the team play better,'' Meulensteen told The Telegraph.
"We are nearly at Christmas now and look at the performances. I still don't see a flow, a rhythm. They win five on the spin but they were absolutely pummelled at Arsenal and should have lost against Southampton. He's not my cup of tea.
"United have been thrown into a bit of an identity crisis. Under Ferguson, it was routines, straightforward, people didn't have to think about it."
Van Gaal comes up against Brendan Rodgers on Sunday lunchtime when Manchester United host bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.
