Man United news: Harry Maguire hit by Football Association charge

Man United defender Maguire facing extended PL suspension

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been charged by the Football Association for improper conduct.

Maguire is due to return to club duties after representing England during their recent friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.

However, the centre-back is already due to be sidelined until at least April 18 due to receiving a red card against Bournemouth last month.

With the Red Devils 2-1 ahead at the Vitality Stadium, the 33-year-old was deemed to have fouled Evanilson when he was through on goal.

Having made no attempt to play the ball when pushing the Brazilian, Maguire was handed a straight red card.

Why has the FA charged Maguire?

Before leaving the pitch, Maguire protested his innocence to the referee, while he also remonstrated with the fourth official prior to going down the tunnel.

As per an official statement, it is the second act that could lead to Maguire facing an extended suspension.

It read: "Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of Man Utd’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on March 20.

"It’s alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards the fourth official following his dismissal.

"Harry Maguire has until April 2 to provide a response.”

Maguire facing one more game on the sidelines?

Chelsea winger Pedro Neto was recently handed an additional one-match ban for doing similar to Maguire after he was sent off against Arsenal on March 1.

Therefore, it is plausible that Maguire will suffer the same fate and miss Man United's next two Premier League games.

They are a home fixture against Leeds United on April 13 and a trip to Chelsea on April 18.

That would leave Maguire without any competitive football until a game with Brentford on April 27.
