Marcus Rashford's Man United return assessed as the club's new number nine posts social media message

"I'm back playing with United" - How did Rashford perform on Red Devils return?

Marcus Rashford has taken to social media to comment on his return for Manchester United.

The England international was a half-time substitute during Man United's 2026-27 Premier League opener against Hull City on Saturday afternoon.

Man United were two goals behind at the interval against the newly-promoted outfit and were unable to recover, as the Red Devils made a poor start to the new campaign.

Rashford took to Instagram to comment on his return for the 20-time English champions.

"After 618 days, I’m back playing with United. I wish the result were better, but it’s something we can improve on," the 28-year-old posted on his official account.

Rashford posts on Instagram after Man United return

Rashford has been handed the number nine shirt for Man United, strongly suggesting that he will be remaining with the club for the 2026-27 campaign.

Barcelona turned down the chance to sign the attacker on a permanent basis earlier this summer despite a successful loan spell at Camp Nou last term.

Patrick Dorgu struggled down the left in the first half of the clash against Hull, with Rashford certainly providing a bigger threat in the second half of the contest.

According to Sofascore, Rashford managed 15 carries, three of which were progressive carries, while he had 32 touches, showing his quality on the ball.

Rashford set up an excellent chance for Benjamin Sesko to score with a header, but Hull, as was the case all afternoon, managed to deal with the danger.

The forward also won two of his three ground duels, while he finished with a pass success rate of 79%, completing 19 of his 24 passes against the promoted outfit.

What happens now with Rashford?

Rashford will now surely be in contention to start against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford next Sunday, when Man United continue their Premier League campaign.

There remains interest in the forward from Turkey, but it is highly unlikely that he will move to a club in the Super Lig before the end of the transfer window.

Unless something unforeseen occurs in the latter stages of the market, Rashford will be with the 20-time English champions until at least the January transfer window.
