Newly-promoted Hull City secured a stunning 2-0 victory against Manchester United in their opening game of the 2026-27 Premier League season on Saturday.
Hull City were the superior side throughout the first half and deservedly held a 2-0 lead at the break, with goals from central defenders Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy leaving Manchester United shellshocked.
Manchester United controlled the second period, setting up camp in the Hull City half, but despite their dominance, the Red Devils failed to truly trouble the hosts' defence, which held firm as the Tigers retained their clean sheet and secured a 2-0 win.
SPORTS MOLE'S VERDICT
Manchester United were simply miles away from the required level, while Hull City demonstrated the exact fight and determination needed to compete at the top level.
Man Utd lacked any real class or composure across the entire pitch, while Hull executed their gameplan perfectly, with dangerous deliveries into their physical players proving difference.
Not only did Hull show threatening signs going forward, especially through their wing-backs and from set-pieces, but they were extremely resilient in defence, giving Man Utd's stars little time to ever show their quality.
Ultimately, Sergej Jakirovic's side outpowered and outmanoeuvred their opponents, securing a deserved victory and sending a message to the rest of the division that they will be no pushovers this season.
