Hojlund breaks Premier League record with opener against Luton

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund broke a Premier League record with his opening goal in Sunday's 2-1 win over Luton Town.

Hojlund got Erik ten Hag's side off to the perfect start when he found the net after benefitting from Amari'i Bell's defensive error.

As a result of the strike, Hojlund became the youngest player to score in six consecutive Premier League appearances.

At the age of 21 years and 14 days, the Denmark international surpassed the record that was previously held by Joe Willock, who had accomplished the feat at 21 years and 272 days.

Clocked at 36 seconds, Hojlund's opener also represented Man United's fastest away goal in the Premier League era.

Buoyed from his early strike, Hojlund wasted little time in doubling Man United's advantage, turning his chest to divert Alejandro Garnacho's attempted shot past Thomas Kaminski.

The striker's seventh-minute goal helped give the Red Devils their fastest-ever 2-0 lead in a Premier League away fixture.

Carlton Morris quickly pulled a goal back for the hosts in the 14th minute, before both sides spurned chances to add to their respective tallies in the remainder of the contest.

The visitors were ultimately happy to hold on to their slender 2-1 lead and claim a fourth consecutive top-flight victory.

Hojlund's brace means that he has now taken his total tally for the season to 13 goals in 30 competitive appearances.

The youngster also helped keep Man United in the hunt for Champions League qualification, with the sixth-placed side currently three points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur in fifth spot and five points away from Aston Villa in fourth position.

The Red Devils will round off February with a home meeting with Fulham, before they travel to the Etihad Stadium for a derby clash with Manchester City on March 3.
