Ander Herrera: Romelu Lukaku arrival "massive" for Manchester United

Herrera: Lukaku arrival

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera hopes that the addition of Romelu Lukaku to the squad will make a telling difference in next season's title race.

Ander Herrera has suggested that the arrival of Romelu Lukaku could be the missing piece in Manchester United's title-winning jigsaw.

The Red Devils fell well short in the Premier League last term, forcing boss Jose Mourinho to dig deep to bring in the £75m striker from Everton.

Lukaku boasts proven pedigree in the top flight after netting on a regular basis for both West Bromwich Albion and Everton, registering 25 in all last time out, and it did not take him long to get off the mark for his new side.

Following the loss of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Herrera admits that United boasted too many players of the same ilk, with the 24-year-old giving them a much-needed cutting edge up top.

"We have many players like Micki (Henrikh Mkhitaryan), Marcus [Rashford] and Anthony [Martial], who are very good in a one-against-one, but we need one like Romelu," he told MUTV.

"He's strong and can hold the ball for us. Sometimes, when you are defending, you can keep the ball and he can hold it for you, so the work he does for us is massive. It's very difficult to win the ball from him, so he's going to be very important for us."

United have so far won both of their pre-season friendlies, seeing off Los Angeles Galaxy 5-2 at the weekend and Real Salt Lake 2-1 in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
