Ferguson hails Mancini "masterclass"

Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Roberto Mancini's handling of the Carlos Tevez saga has been "a masterclass in management".

The Manchester United boss, who managed Tevez before he made the move to the Etihad Stadium, admits that the Italian has proved his doubters wrong.

"If anyone ever doubted the ability of Roberto Mancini as a manager, you just have to study his handling of the Carlos Tevez situation," he said. "For this was a masterclass in management.

"Roberto's handling of the situation distinguished him in managerial terms. When Carlos appeared reluctant to come on as a sub, I saw a coach angry and disturbed, and rightly so, because nobody should be bigger at a football club than the manager.

"He is the man who must have absolute authority, and to give way to a challenge to his control is the biggest mistake a manager can make."

Manchester United are preparing to host Mancini's side at Old Trafford later today (Sunday) in a top-of-the-table clash.
