Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has thanked the club's fans for the support that they gave the team during today's 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Goals from Robin van Persie and captain Nemanja Vidic put the hosts in control and despite Daniel Sturridge finding the net for Liverpool with just over 30 minutes remaining, United held out to claim all three points.

"Great result vs Lfc...great support from our fans today, loud as!! 3 more big points," he wrote on Twitter.

Next up for United is an FA Cup replay against West Ham United on Wednesday evening.
