Everton have reportedly received a written apology from Manchester United for the way the club appointed manager David Moyes.
Goodison Park executives were furious that the Red Devils approached the Scot while the season was still in play and were considering lodging an official complaint, according to The Mirror.
However, United are believed to have submitted a written apology to prevent the situation from escalating.
The spat is reported to have put United's pursuit of Everton left-back Leighton Baines in doubt, with the Blues allegedly unwilling to listen to offers from the Premier League champions.
