Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has suggested that Ruben Amorim's tactics during his time as Red Devils head coach were "too complicated" and difficult to understand.
Amorim was in charge of Man United between November 2024 and January 2026, and he guided the team to last season's Europa League final, but a disastrous Premier League campaign saw the 20-time English champions finish down in 15th spot in the table.
The Portuguese was eventually sacked as head coach following tension with senior figures at Man United, and Michael Carrick was appointed until the end of the campaign.
Carrick has guided Man United to seven wins from their 10 Premier League matches since his arrival, with the Red Devils now up in third spot in the Premier League table.
As it stands, Carrick is the favourite to be appointed head coach on a long-term basis, and Lammens has hailed the Englishman for his impact while taking an apparent swipe at Amorim.
Carrick is the favourite to be appointed Man United's head coach on a long-term basis
"The first thing, from the first day, was his (Carrick) ability to make everything quite clear and (present) a direct message. He didn’t make it too difficult for us or too complicated," he told The Athletic.
"Sometimes, managers make a plan too complicated, and then some players don’t buy in and it’s difficult to get on the same level for everyone.
"But from the first game, it was quite clear what he [Carrick] wanted. He was not asking the most difficult things, but also he was able to let our players thrive in their qualities.
"At the back, not giving goals away is one of the most important things, and then our players in front can make a difference. That’s probably what has been working the best.
Lammens hails Carrick for his work since replacing Amorim
"Michael has given us a lot of confidence and a lot of stability from the back.
"At the beginning of the season, there were a couple of players injured and a couple of defenders coming in and going out. It was difficult to get the rhythm.
"The last couple of games have been better as well. For example, with (centre-back) Harry Maguire in front of me, he is also a beast, so it’s always nice to have him there."
Lammens has been a standout performer for Man United since Carrick's arrival as head coach, with the 23-year-old fast establishing himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe.
Man United's 2025-26 Premier League campaign will resume against Leeds United on April 13.
