Angel di Maria: 'I never wanted to join Manchester United'

Angel di Maria reveals that he never wanted to sign for Manchester United from Real Madrid in 2014.

Angel di Maria has revealed that he never wanted to sign for Manchester United, after spending an uneventful season with the club.

The Argentine midfielder joined the Old Trafford side from Real Madrid for £59.7m in 2014, before leaving in the summer to sign for Paris Saint-Germain in a £44.3m deal.

Di Maria has said that he quickly became unsettled at United after losing his place in the team and sought a move away from the Premier League outfit.

"My intention was always to stay [at Madrid]. I don't really know what happened on the inside, these are things that representatives deal with. It happens in football," the 27-year-old told Marca.

"I started very well [at United] but then I had problems with people at the club, I started being left on the bench, then my home was robbed. It all just made me want to get out of there as quickly as possible.

"My move to PSG could have happened before this summer but it didn't for financial reasons and I ended up going to United. In the summer I had the chance to go there again and I could not say no."

Di Maria scored four goals in 32 appearances for United.
