Angel di Maria: 'Louis van Gaal played big part in Manchester United exit'

Di Maria blames Van Gaal for Man Utd exit

Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel di Maria has admitted that his exit from Manchester United was thanks in part to manager Louis van Gaal.

The 27-year-old joined the Red Devils last August for a record British transfer fee of £59.7m, but left Old Trafford for the Parc des Princes just a year later.

Di Maria told ESPN: "Van Gaal has his philosophy and it is one of the reasons why I wanted to leave Manchester United.

"I made a very good start and then I got injured. Things weren't quite working for me and Van Gaal changed my position. It's difficult to adapt to Van Gaal. I had a number of flare ups with him."

Di Maria played 27 times for Man Utd, scoring three goals.
