Former Manchester United player David Sadler: 'Van Gaal has faith in Anthony Martial'

Former Manchester United player David Sadler believes that Anthony Martial's selection as a left-winger against Everton demonstrates Louis van Gaal's faith in the youngster.

Former Manchester United player David Sadler has stated that Louis van Gaal's faith in Anthony Martial was shown by playing the young striker in a left-wing position against Everton.

The European Cup winner believes that Martial's role in the 3-0 victory over the Toffees shows the Dutchman's level of confidence in the 19-year-old, while Van Gaal recently revealed his surprise at the French striker's consistency since moving to Old Trafford.

"He did a great job for the team at Everton, for instance, playing wide left," Sadler told the Manchester Evening News.

"I know many fans queried the fact that Martial was taken away from the centre role he has performed so well at Goodison Park, seemingly to accommodate Wayne Rooney.

"You don't hand young boys a hard job like that if you don't have the confidence in him and Van Gaal certainly has. The faith was repaid."

Third-placed United take on table-topping Manchester City in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sunday.
