Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has won the Premier League Golden Glove award for the 2022-23 campaign, with the Spaniard on 17 clean sheets in the competition this term.

The experienced stopper had already been guaranteed to at least share the prize courtesy of his 16th clean sheet of the season in last weekend's 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Liverpool's Alisson Becker had been the other goalkeeper in the picture, but the Brazilian conceded in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, which secured the prize for De Gea.

The 32-year-old then posted his 17th clean sheet of the Premier League season against Bournemouth on Saturday, with Casemiro's only goal securing a 1-0 victory for Erik ten Hag's side.

De Gea has made some high-profile errors this season, notably against Sevilla in the Europa League and West Ham United in the Premier League, but he has now kept 25 clean sheets in 55 outings in 2022-23.

The Spaniard's future continues to be called into question, and he only has a contract with the 20-time English champions until the end of next month.

However, Man United are expected to announce a new deal for the stopper in the near future, albeit on a reduced salary, as he currently collects in the region of £375,000 a week.

De Gea previously won the Golden Glove award in 2017-18, and he will be looking to finish the season with two more clean sheets against Chelsea and Fulham.

Man United now need just one point from their final two Premier League matches of the campaign to be guaranteed a position in the Champions League next season.

Casemiro's acrobatic effort against Bournemouth moved Ten Hag's side onto 69 points in the table, three points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool, who have played a game more than their rivals.

"Bournemouth were already safe and a good opponent but we started well and created a lot of chances, I am really happy with the performance," Ten Hag told reporters after the clash with the Cherries.

"It was a fantastic goal from Casemiro, a brilliant finish. I was nervous at 1-0 because you can easily make a mistake and concede a goal. We had to win the game. We are nearly there - in the top four - but we are not there. We need a win."

Meanwhile, De Gea told BBC Sport: "We knew before we came here that it means a lot to win today. We performed very well and scored a great goal. We suffered at the end but away from home it's a massive three points.

"For sure the first 25 minutes was key, it was a perfect start and then we could be calm and play our football. It's a big win. Maybe we have to put Casemiro as a striker. What a finish! The golden glove is not just about me - we have been solid this season."

Man United were again missing leading goalscorer Marcus Rashford on Saturday, this time through illness, but he is expected to return for Thursday's clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
