Cristiano Ronaldo scores on his return for Manchester United against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored on his return for Manchester United against Newcastle United.

The Portugal international was named in the starting XI on Saturday afternoon, as he made his second debut for the 20-time English champions following his return to the club on transfer deadline day.

The 36-year-old was heavily involved in the first half of the Premier League meeting, but Newcastle looked to have done enough to keep the scores level entering the interval.

Ronaldo came up with the game's opener in the second minute of additional time at the end of the first 45, though, as he tapped in from close range after Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman had spilled a shot from Mason Greenwood, who had unleashed one from distance.

The goal is Ronaldo's 119th for Man United, having found the back of the net on 118 occasions during his first spell at the club between 2003 and 2009.

The Portuguese started at the tip of the attack against Newcastle, with Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes and Greenwood also featuring in the forward areas.
