Michael Carrick was reportedly not selected in England's Euro 2012 squad because he did not want to be a "bit-part player" at the tournament.
The Manchester United midfielder last played for his country in May 2010.
He was not named in Roy Hodgson's 23-man party or list of five reserves on Wednesday based on his own decision, according to BBC Sport.
Carrick has won 22 caps for England.
