Manchester United's Michael Carrick refuses to rule out title challenge

Manchester United can challenge for the Premier League title if their recent form continues, according to Michael Carrick.

Michael Carrick has refused to rule Manchester United out of the race for the Premier League title.

Following an inconsistent start to the campaign, Louis van Gaal's men have won five matches in a row, which has moved them to eight points behind leaders Chelsea.

Providing that his side are able to continue that form over the Christmas period, Carrick believes that United can challenge for top spot during the second half of the season.

"If we are in and around the top by Christmas or January then we are right in there with a chance," the midfielder told United Review.

"I think with this squad that we have, which is gradually improving and building, then anything can happen. It is all won and lost in the last two or three months of the season, so the aim is definitely to challenge."

The Red Devils take on rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford tomorrow afternoon.
