John Barnes: 'Manchester United fans blame players, not David Moyes'

John Barnes believes that Manchester United fans should point the finger at the players, not David Moyes, if things start to go wrong.

Former Liverpool player John Barnes has urged the Manchester United supporters to criticise the players, not manager David Moyes if things start to go wrong on the pitch.

Moyes will leave Everton for Old Trafford on July 1 following Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to retire as boss after 26 illustrious years in charge.

"For me, [if things go wrong] that is a slight on the players because we know that David Moyes is a good manager," Barnes told Sports Mole.

"But we know what football's like, and I'm a Liverpool fan so I want things to go wrong, obviously, but I would urge the Manchester United fans to put pressure on the players to keep playing in the way they have even though Sir Alex Ferguson isn't there."
