Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: 'Anthony Martial will not get big-headed'

Louis van Gaal is certain that burgeoning Manchester United striker Anthony Martial will stay grounded despite his talismanic form as of late.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has stressed that striker Anthony Martial will not get carried away as his red-hot form shows no sign of abating.

United's £36m man, 19, struck his fourth goal for the club in tonight's 3-0 League Cup rout of Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, having only joined from AS Monaco on deadline day.

The Frenchman also netted twice in Sunday's 3-2 win at Southampton, having secured a debut goal in the 3-1 win over Liverpool eight days previous, but Van Gaal says that the youngster is humble.

"That's not difficult because he's a player who is very modest and he knows he can score because of his fellow players," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"We made it very easy for him two times because we won the game and then the gaps are existing and, with his speed and composure, he can score.

"He did it also against Liverpool and now again. We are happy but still we have to keep our feet on the ground."

The Red Devils, who took the lead through Wayne Rooney and Andreas Pereira against the Tractor Boys, will host Middlesbrough in the fourth round.
