Jesse Lingard: 'Manchester United had to put things right'

Lingard: 'United wanted to make amends'

Jesse Lingard has stressed that Manchester United were eager to put the defeat to Huddersfield Town behind them as they saw off Swansea City in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

The 24-year-old added to his strike in the 4-1 third-round win over Burton Albion by bagging a brace in Tuesday's encounter at the Liberty Stadium for a 2-0 victory and a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Man United succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to the Terriers last Saturday, and Lingard admitted that the team wanted to make amends and move on from the loss at the John Smith's Stadium.

"I thought we were in control," Lingard told Sky Sports News. "We had to put things right today. We have learned from the weekend and we want to move on.

"It was my first header in a long time, but I am just happy however they go in.

"It is always good to win trophies, especially this one which comes so early in the season."

The draw for the last eight of the EFL Cup will be held in London at 4pm on Thursday, October 26.
