Michael Carrick wants Manchester United to return to form

Michael Carrick says that the fans need to stick with Manchester United as they strive to turnaround their disappointing 2014 form.

Michael Carrick is desperate for Manchester United to rediscover their top form ahead of their Capital One Cup semi-final second-leg tie with Sunderland.

United go into the match having made a disappointing start to 2014, losing four of their five matches so far this year that includes a 2-1 defeat in the first leg at the Stadium of Light.

"We want to play again as quickly as possible," Carrick told reporters following Sunday's 3-1 loss at Chelsea.

"Wednesday is another big game. It is a huge game for us. It is an opportunity to get to a final. You can't take that lightly. We will get over [the defeat to Chelsea], dust ourselves down, and be ready again for Wednesday. The fans have been unbelievable, over the last month or so especially.

"Times have been difficult. Performances have not been that bad actually, but results have been pretty awful for us to take. We are giving everything at the minute. It is just not going our way. If we all stick together, I am sure it will turn soon."

The match gets underway at 7.45pm on Wednesday at Old Trafford.
