Manchester United striker Robin van Persie 'leaves Liberty Stadium on crutches'

Robin van Persie could reportedly be poised for a spell on the sidelines after leaving the Liberty Stadium on crutches following Manchester United's defeat to Swansea.

Robin van Persie left the Liberty Stadium on crutches this afternoon after picking up an injury in Manchester United's 2-1 defeat to Swansea City in the Premier League.

The Dutch striker completed the full 90 minutes in Wales, but was seen limping away from the ground with a protective boot on his right foot.

He was only returning to the team after missing the 3-1 FA Cup fifth-round victory over Preston North End on Monday.

It is unclear whether this is an aggravation of the same problem, but initial reports are suggesting that United fear that Van Persie, their top scorer this season with 10 goals, could be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Goals from Ki Sung-yueng and Bafetimbi Gomis cancelled out Ander Herrera's opener as Swansea completed their first ever league double over the Red Devils, who dropped to fourth in the table courtesy of the result.
