Manchester United reveal Casemiro will miss Sheffield United clash

Man United reveal Casemiro will miss Sheffield United clash

Manchester United have revealed that Casemiro will be absent for Saturday's Premier League contest with Sheffield United due to a minor issue which he suffered on international duty.

The 31-year-old was substituted during Brazil's 1-1 draw with Venezuela last week due to an ankle problem, but he was able to feature on Tuesday night against Uruguay, playing the full 90 minutes of the contest.

The midfielder's presence in the 2-0 loss to Uruguay appeared to suggest that he would represent Man United against Sheffield United this weekend.

However, a statement on the club's official website revealed that Casemiro has stayed in Brazil to recover from the problem which he suffered while representing his country.

"Casemiro was absent [from Thursday's training session], having remained in Brazil, on the club's advice, to recover as swiftly as possible from a small issue picked up while playing for his country," read a statement from the 20-time English champions on Thursday.

"He will be unavailable for Saturday's game with the Blades but is expected back at Carrington early next week to resume training, although he is suspended for the UEFA Champions League encounter with FC Copenhagen at Old Trafford, after being sent off in the defeat to Galatasaray."

Casemiro's return for the club could therefore come against Manchester City in the Manchester derby on October 29.

The Brazilian has again been a vital player for Man United during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring four goals and registering one assist in 11 appearances in all competitions.

However, Casemiro was substituted at the interval of his side's 2-1 loss to Brentford before the international break, and his defensive contribution has been called into question this season.

Man United were handed a double boost on Thursday, though, as both Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Reguilon took part in the first-team training session.

Amrabat was unable to represent Morocco during the international break due to injury, while Reguilon has missed his loan team's last four matches due to a hamstring problem.

The pair are seemingly in line to face Sheffield United, though, and the club will also be hopeful that Raphael Varane, who trained on Thursday, has fully recovered from the problem which forced him to miss the Brentford clash.

As well as Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw and Amad Diallo will be missing for the Red Devils this weekend due to fitness problems.
