Manchester United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle United

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's clash with Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Manchester United resume Premier League action against Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be desperate for a win ahead of the international break after Thursday's 0-0 draw with AZ Alkmaar extended the club's winless run away from home to 10 games.

They come up against a Newcastle side also short of confidence having lost 5-0 at the hands of Leicester City last time out.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news for Man United ahead of the game.

Luke Shaw

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: October 6 (vs. Newcastle United)

The Englishman has been sidelined with a thigh problem since August and was initially predicted to miss a month of action, meaning that he ought to be working back towards full fitness. Solskjaer claimed that he would make a late decision over his first-choice left-back on Saturday.

Jesse Lingard

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

Amid a poor run of form, Lingard suffered a further piece of misfortune when he went straight off against AZ after straining his hamstring, meaning that Sunday's clash comes far too early for him. Solskjaer did note that the injury was not serious after the game.

Anthony Martial

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: October 6 (vs. Newcastle United)

The Frenchman, who suffered a thigh injury in August, has an outside chance of featuring at St James' Park, with Solskjaer, although sounding pessimistic, noting that the club would wait until the last moment to make a call on his fitness.

Eric Bailly

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Bailly suffered knee ligament damage over pre-season and it remains unclear as to when the Ivorian will return, with a comeback in December probably the most likely outcome.

Paul Pogba

Status: Out
Type of injury: Foot
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

Solskjaer confirmed on Friday that Pogba would not be risked until after the international break amid continued problems with a foot injury sustained against Southampton last month.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: October 6 (vs. Newcastle United)

Wan-Bissaka was not included in the squad which travelled to Holland during the week after the full-back came down with a bout of tonsilitis, which precluded him from playing against Arsenal. He is expected to come back for this game.

Phil Jones

Status: Out
Type of injury: Unknown
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

The type of injury currently plaguing Jones is unknown, but the Englishman is not expected to make a return to action until after the international break.

Fosu-Mensah, who last played for United in the 2016-17 season, remains some way off recovering from a knee ligament injury sustained whilst on loan at Fulham last term.
