Half-Time Report: Robin van Persie goal gives Manchester United lead

Manchester United head in at half time in the Community Shield with a 1-0 lead over Wigan Athletic.

Robin van Persie gave David Moyes's side the lead after just six minutes with a fine header after an impressive move.

United dominated proceedings after the goal and created another chance on 15 minutes through a dangerous low cross from Wilfried Zaha, but it was well defended by Wigan.

Zaha continued to cause problems down the right-hand side, using his pace to trouble the Wigan defence.

Wigan began to play themselves into the game and came close on 32 minutes through a superb James McClean cross, but no-one could find the finishing touch.

Danny Welbeck forced a save from Scott Carson on 38 minutes when he turned well and hit his strike towards the far post.

Wigan had a huge chance to draw level just before half time, but no-one could get on the end of Emerson Boyce's header back across goal.
