In recent years, Darren Fletcher had become a key part of Sir Alex Ferguson's starting lineup at Manchester United.

However, in 2011 it was revealed that the Scottish international was suffering from ulcerative colitis - a condition that disrupts the bowel.

It has limited the 29-year-old to just a handful of appearances since then as he underwent treatment.

The midfielder did step up his comeback last night, though, by turning out for United's development side in a fixture against Fulham.
