Wayne Rooney hoping FA Cup win can inspire Manchester United to more trophies

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney hopes that his side's FA Cup triumph will inspire the club to more silverware in the coming seasons.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has said that he hopes the club's FA Cup triumph on Saturday will act as a springboard to more silverware.

The Red Devils won their first major trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace after extra time at Wembley, ending a three-year wait for honours.

The result also saw United win the FA Cup for a record-equalling 12th time and a first since 2004, and Rooney is eager to taste more success with the club in the coming years.

"It's important for Manchester United and the supporters. We've won nothing for three years," he told reporters.

"A lot of players are new to the club but they've had that taste of success now so hopefully that kicks them on to want more and we can go on a good run for the next few years.

"It's great to win trophies. This was a bit more important because we have been under a bit of pressure since Sir Alex left but we knew it was going to take time."

Rooney had never won the FA Cup before yesterday's triumph.
