Manchester United legend Eric Cantona posts his views on the European Super League on Instagram, with a focus on asking fans what they want.

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has criticised the clubs involved in the European Super League, showing support with football fans.

The Frenchman won the Premier League four times with the Red Devils, who are one of the founding clubs of the heavily-condemned breakaway league.

The Glazers have linked up with the owners of 11 other top European clubs and announced the proposal of a midweek competition, which will "save football" according to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

Cantona took to Instagram to share his views on the Super League: "I would like to say something about the European Super League. Since one year we have seen games on TV with the best clubs in the world and the best players in the world, and it was so boring, and it's still so boring, because the fans are not there - the fans singing, jumping, supporting their teams.

"The fans are the most important thing in football. They have to be respected. Did these big clubs ask the fans what they thought about this idea? No, unfortunately, and that's a shame."

Protecting the views of football fans has been reiterated by all of the Supporters Trusts from each English club involved in the Super League.
