Man Utd's Marouane Fellaini: 'We did not respect Louis van Gaal's gameplan'

Fellaini: 'We didn't respect LVG's plan'

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has claimed that he and his teammates "didn't respect" Louis van Gaal's gameplan in the first half of Thursday's Europa League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

The Red Devils head into next week's last-16 second leg at Old Trafford with a 2-0 deficit.

Ex-United stars Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand were heavily critical of United's display, and Fellaini has blamed the players over manager Van Gaal.

"I think in the first half, we didn't respect the gameplan of the manager, so it was difficult for us," Fellaini told UEFA.com.

"The second half we did well, we did better, had more possession, tried to create chances but tonight we didn't do enough to score a goal."

Fellaini could be banned for the return fixture as cameras caught him appearing to elbow Emre Can towards the end of the match.
