Rasmus Hojlund: 'Erik ten Hag still has backing of Manchester United squad'

Hojlund: 'Ten Hag still has backing of Man United squad'

Rasmus Hojlund says that 'every single player in the Manchester United dressing room' continues to back head coach Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils have endured one of their worst starts to a season in recent memory, partly due to five defeats coming from 11 matches in the Premier League.

However, United are also in danger of failing to qualify for the Champions League last 16 after losing a dramatic 4-3 group-stage fixture with Copenhagen on Wednesday night.

Hojlund had put United 2-0 ahead inside the opening half hour, but the controversial sending off of Marcus Rashford and two debatable goals - one from the penalty spot - brought Copenhagen level before half time.

United regained the lead through a contentious spot kick of their own before Copenhagen used their extra man to their advantage during the closing stages to prevail in a seven-goal thriller.

In 17 matches in all competitions during 2023-24, United have won eight games and lost the other nine, heaping the pressure on Ten Hag whose five wins in the Premier League this season have all come by one-goal margins.

Furthermore, United now sit bottom of their Champions League group, one point adrift of second ahead of a visit to Galatasaray and a concluding home showdown with Bayern Munich,

Nevertheless, Hojlund, who is currently the joint-leading marksman in the Champions League with five goals, has reiterated that the senior squad continue to back Ten Hag to turn things around in due course.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, the Dane said: "A really good coach. He cares about every single detail, and he helps me a lot, gives me a lot of confidence and supports me.

"I think every player in the dressing room support him. I hope it is just a matter of time. The first 30 minutes today was some of the best football we have been playing this season."

Hojlund added: "It was nice to score two goals but having said that, it is a shame that we had a red card because we were playing very well in the first 20-25 minutes. We need a little luck at the moment. We miss the small things."

United are next in action when they play host to Luton Town in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, having the opportunity to move into sixth before Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion play later over the weekend.

With regards to the Champions League, United know that defeat in Turkey to Galatasaray would see them eliminated with a game to spare, instead reliant on Copenhagen's results to determine whether they would drop down into the Europa League.
