Manchester City transfer news: Citizens 'finalise departure' of winter signing

Manchester City 'finalise departure' of winter signing

Manchester City will reportedly soon confirm the departure of a player brought in during the most recent January transfer window, with the individual not featuring in Pep Guardiola's plans for the 2025-26 campaign.

While the Premier League champions have already spent close to €180m (£155.8m) strengthening their squad this summer, there have been few notable departures aside from Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker. Despite this, City are continuing to search for exits for their fringe players, including Jack Grealish, who remains at the club after Everton reportedly pulled out of the race to sign him.

Vitor Reis set to join Girona on loan

City have now found a solution for one of their more recent signings. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Brazilian centre-back Vitor Reis is set to leave the Etihad Stadium just six months after his arrival.

Signed from Palmeiras during the winter window for €37m (£32m), Reis has struggled for opportunities and remains behind the likes of Abdukodir Khusanov, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji and John Stones in the pecking order. As a result, he is now expected to join La Liga side Girona on loan.

A verbal agreement has reportedly been reached for a season-long loan deal, without any option to buy. The move will give the 19-year-old a chance to gain valuable first-team experience before returning to City, where he remains under contract until June 2029.

Limited game time since January move

Reis featured just four times during his first six months with Manchester City, including a single appearance in the Premier League. His most notable outing came during the FIFA Club World Cup, where he started in the opening match against Moroccan side Wydad AC alongside Nathan Ake. He did not feature again in the competition.
