Man City 'suffer blow in pursuit of Barca youngster'

Spanish youngster Nico Gonzalez agrees a new three-year contract with Barcelona, according to a report.

Barcelona have reportedly agreed a new deal with Nico Gonzalez and could make an announcement this week.

The 19-year-old's future has been the subject of much speculation, with Manchester City said to be keen to bring the midfielder to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barca are on the verge of announcing a new contract for the teenager, who will commit himself to the Catalan giants for the next three years.

The report claims that Gonzalez is expected to be a part of Barcelona B during the 2021-22 campaign before progressing to the senior side at the start of the 2022-23 season.

The youngster is believed to have rejected offers from other clubs to commit his future to the La Liga outfit, although it is unclear whether Man City officially approached him.

Gonzalez - previously capped by Spain Under-17s - has provided two assists in 23 appearances for Barca B.
