City 'eye Rice as Fernandinho replacement'

West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Manchester City.

Rice has come through the academy setup at the East London outfit, and the 19-year-old has already made 54 first-team appearances for the Hammers.

West Ham also announced recently that Rice had penned a new long-term contract, but according to The Sun, Man City are monitoring the youngster's development.

The report claims that the Premier League champions have identified Rice as a potential long-term replacement for Fernandinho, who turns 34 years of age in May.

Manager Pep Guardiola missed out on bringing in competition for the Brazilian during the summer, but the report suggests that an approach could be made for Rice in the future.
