Platini: 'Anti-racism protocol was not followed'

UEFA president Michel Platini has called for an investigation into why the correct anti-racism protocol was not followed during Manchester City's match with CSKA Moscow in Russia.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was allegedly subjected to monkey chants from a section of CSKA Moscow supporters during the match, with the Ivorian making the incident known to the referee.

However, no further action was taken during the remainder of the match, and Platini has requested that an internal investigation take place to find out why UEFA's anti-racism procedure was not enforced.

According to UEFA's guidelines, Ovidiu Hategan should have requested for an announcement to be made over the stadium tannoy for any racist behaviour to stop.

If that failed to bring an end to the incident, the referee would be able to suspend the game for a reasonable amount of time, before possibly considering abandoning the fixture.
