David Silva has said that Manchester City's success this season 'helped him' deal with the premature birth of his son in December.

City were presented with the Premier League trophy following Sunday's goalless draw with Huddersfield Town at the Etihad Stadium.

Silva once again played a key role in the team's success during the 2017-18 campaign, and the 32-year-old has said that he is "so happy" to land the title alongside the improvement in health of his son, Mateo.

"Yeah this is a big one for me, because what happened with my son," Silva told Sky Sports News. "I am so happy because he is getting better and we got the title. I can't ask for more.

"Because the team playing so well, that helped me. I feel okay I feel good. I have to travel to Spain and back to England, it was a tough time for me but you know we are the champions."

Silva has scored eight times and registered 11 assists in 51 appearances for City this season.
