Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has expressed discontent with how his side has thrown the season "into the garbage".
The defending champions were level with Premier League leaders Chelsea at the start of 2015 and in with a shout of retaining the league and winning other silverware.
Since then, however, City have since lost to Arsenal, Liverpool, Burnley and Crystal Palace in the league, as well as being eliminated from the FA Cup and the Champions League.
Pellegrini told BBC Sport: "It has not been a good season, definitely not.
"It was not so bad at the turn of the year, when we were at the top of the table, in the Champions League and hadn't yet started in the FA Cup. But in the last three months we have thrown it into the garbage.
"I think always for the fans it is important to finish as near to the top of the table as you can and that's what we must do. This is a chance for the players to give something to the fans."
Pellegrini has had to play down reports that he is at risk of being sacked at the end of the season.
