Nicolas Otamendi backs misfiring Sergio Aguero for resurgence

Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi is certain that misfiring striker Sergio Aguero will improve on his low-profile Premier League form.

Nicolas Otamendi has backed Manchester City teammate Sergio Aguero to dust off the early-season cobwebs and rediscover his talismanic touch shortly.

The 27-year-old scored a last-gasp penalty in Wednesday's Champions League win at Borussia Monchengladbach, but the Argentine has struggled domestically, netting once in seven Premier League outings so far.

"A top player like Sergio always focuses on themselves and forgets about any mistakes. His main goal is to be a threat in the opposition area," his compatriot told the Manchester Evening News.

"He showed a lot of confidence taking the penalty and that's what we expect of him. He is a key player for us.

"But it's not only about Sergio - we must not forget the rest of the attacking players. We also have [Kevin] De Bruyne and [Raheem] Sterling, players who in these kind of moments make the difference."

The Sky Blues, who sit second in England's top flight, one point behind local rivals Manchester United, host Newcastle United at the Etihad on Saturday.
