West Ham United's Cheikhou Kouyate apologises for David Silva elbow

Cheikhou Kouyate makes a public apology to Manchester City's David Silva after elbowing him in the face on Sunday.

West Ham United midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate has taken to Twitter to apologise for his elbow which saw Manchester City playmaker David Silva leave Sunday's Premier League match on a stretcher.

The point of Kouyate's elbow caught Spaniard Silva in the face and left him needing extended medical treatment on the pitch before he was removed at the Etihad.

Kouyate was booked during the game for his part in the incident and will face no further action from the Football Association.

He wrote on Twitter today: "I would like to say to @21LVA that I am very sorry that you were injured during the match on Sunday, but it was not my intention.

"I went for the ball and my eyes were on the ball. I always play the ball and never the player. You are a great guy and a great player @21LVA and I hope you are back on the field very soon."

Silva has escaped a cheekbone fracture and is back in training for City.
