Manchester City's Gareth Barry to serve one-match ban

Barry hit with one-match ban

The Football Association have banned midfielder Gareth Barry from playing for Manchester City for one game after he verbally abused a match official.

The governing body have confirmed that the England international has accepted the charge that was dealt to him following City's 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Barry, who has also been fined £8,000, had until 4pm today to contest the charge but has instead admitted to insulting a match official and will be absent for the Premier League champions' trip to Newcastle United this weekend.

The North-West side currently sit six points adrift of table toppers and fierce rivals United.
