Vincent Kompany ruled out with "short-term" injury

Vincent Kompany will play no part against Swansea City on Wednesday, but Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola does not expect to be without his skipper for the long-term.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that Vincent Kompany is facing another spell on the sidelines, but expects his skipper's latest injury to be a "short-term" problem.

The experienced centre-back lasted just 45 minutes of Sunday's clash against Manchester United before being taken off, having been a big fitness doubt prior to the match.

Kompany was four games into his return from an 11-week layoff with a calf problem, though Guardiola is only prepared to rule him out of one game - away to Swansea City on Wednesday night - for now.

Asked if the Belgian defender will be fit for the trip to the Liberty Stadium, he told reporters: "No, but I think it will be less than we expect, so hopefully it could be in the short-term future. But exactly? I don't know."

City are expected to move for a new central defender in the January transfer window, with West Bromwich Albion ace Jonny Evans an option.
