Bayern Munich coast to win at Manchester City

Manchester City lose to 10-man Bayern Munich in the group stage game in the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium.

Bayern Munich thrashed Manchester City 3-1 in their Champions League group stage game at the Etihad Stadium this evening.

Franck Ribery opened the scoring for the visitors after just seven minutes, beating Joe Hart with a powerful strike from 25 yards out.

The hosts continued to look stretched for the majority of the first half, but Manuel Pellegrini's men managed to prevent the reigning champions from doubling their lead before the break.

Arjen Robben had a chance inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half, but he curled his finish just wide of the City post.

However, the German side grabbed their second goal two minutes later, as Thomas Muller managed to lose Gael Clichy before taking the ball around Hart to slot it into an open net.

Robben was able to make amends for his earlier miss during the 60th minute, breaking into the penalty area before smashing the ball in for Bayern's third of the night.

Muller almost added his second inside the final 15 minutes, but his volley was kept out by the woodwork.

Alvaro Negredo managed to add a consolation for the home side late on with a curling effort from 20 yards out.

City were given some late hope when Jerome Boateng was sent off for a foul on Yaya Toure, giving David Silva the chance to score from a free kick, but the substitute's shot struck the crossbar.

The result leaves Bayern at the top of their group, while City sit second.
