Remi Garde relieved with Lyon win

Lyon coach Remi Garde believes that his young squad are turning the corner following a first win in six over Rijeka in the Europa League last night.

Lyon coach Remi Garde has declared that his young players deserve credit for responding under pressure following last night's Europa League victory over Rijeka.

Garde's side picked up their first win in six games with a 1-0 success last night, thanks to Clement Grenier's second-half strike.

Les Gones have slipped into the bottom half of Ligue 1 after a dreadful run of form, but Garde believes that his squad are quick learners and can meet the demands of playing three times a week.

He told Ligue 1's official website: "We picked up where we left off after equalising in injury time against Bordeaux on Sunday. The result is a real relief for our young squad.

"A lot of my players are discovering the demands that European football places on a squad. It's fast-tracking their development and the squad is maturing as a result.

"There were some absences tonight and the replacements seized their chance; the concentration and team spirit was excellent. We gave our very best and we're very satisfied."

Lyon's return to Ligue 1 action this weekend promises to be a stern test of their recent recovery, when they face unbeaten Monaco on Sunday night.
