West Brom close to Sturridge loan signing?

West Bromwich Albion have reportedly moved ahead in the race to sign Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge on a loan deal during the January transfer window.

Since the start of 2018, clubs have allegedly baulked at paying the £25m asking price for the England international, who has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield.

However, on Monday, it appeared that Newcastle United had reached a breakthrough with the 28-year-old expecting to make the trip to Tyneside, but those plans are said to have changed.

According to Sky Sports News, Sturridge - who was born in Birmingham - instead favours a switch to West Brom for the remainder of the season.

Interest from the Baggies appears to have led to Sevilla and Inter Milan missing out, while Southampton pulled out of the race after signing Guido Carrillo from Monaco.

Sturridge has made a total of 14 appearances this season, but the player's last outing came back on December 6 when he was introduced as a substitute in the Champions League fixture with Spartak Moscow.
