Former Liverpool captain Graeme Souness believes that the club must act quickly to resolve the Luis Suarez transfer saga.

Former Liverpool captain Graeme Souness has claimed that the club must act quickly to resolve the Luis Suarez transfer saga.

Arsenal have already failed with two bids for the striker, who recently claimed that he wants to leave Anfield.

However, Reds owner John W Henry has insisted that the Uruguayan will not be sold.

"Liverpool cannot afford to sit and not take the money," Souness told Sky Sports News. "It happened in the past with (Fernando) Torres.

"There's a premium to be paid when you go and buy someone. They could find themselves in the same situation again with Suarez's money.

"A week before [the transfer window] closes, you've got this money. Wherever you go, whoever's door you knock, you're going to get stuck with a big fee."

Reports on Tuesday suggested that Suarez was keen to hold fresh talks with Liverpool over his possible departure.
