Man City, Chelsea and Real Madrid are reportedly among the clubs who have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Leicester City's 15-year-old starlet Jeremy Monga.

Leicester City head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has provided a positive update on the future of in-demand starlet Jeremy Monga.

The 15-year-old attacker became the second-youngest player in history to appear in the Premier League when he made his top-flight debut in a 3-0 home defeat to Newcastle United last month.

Monga has made a total of five senior appearances as a substitute for the Foxes, who will be playing in the Championship next season as their relegation from the Premier League has been confirmed.

The teenager will begin his GCSE exams this week and he has only been able to train with the first team a few times per week due to his school commitments.

Nevertheless, Van Nistelrooy has been keen to integrate Monga into his senior squad and the youngster is understood to have already caught the eye of several top European clubs.

A recent report claims that Manchester City are 'expect to finalise' a move for the Leicester talent after leapfrogging Premier League champions Liverpool in the race for his signature.

In-demand Monga set to extend Leicester contract

The Athletic claims that both Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been closely monitoring Monga's progress at senior level and during his time with Leicester's Under-21s.

However, interested suitors have seemingly suffered a blow in their pursuit of Monga, as Van Nistelrooy has revealed that the highly sought-after starlet is set to extend his contract at the King Power Stadium.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Van Nistelrooy said: "We want a future with [Monga] and hoping we can announce a contract with him soon".

Following Leicester's 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest last weekend, Van Nistelrooy added: "If he can stay and this is his future, and he can make minutes and build him into his pathway.

"I have had many conversations with him and his family and hopefully he can sign soon, but it is up to him.

"It is a joy to work with him. We sometimes talk about his GCSEs and mathematics, and I have to help him with that also, but then we talk about football also. He nearly scored a winner here also. That would have been a fairytale."

Monga, who is yet to sign a professional contract with Leicester, is expected to be involved in the club's final two Premier League games of the season against Ipswich Town and Bournemouth, and scoring in either game would see him become the youngest-ever goalscorer in the division's history.
