Liverpool are reportedly still expected to sign Fulham midfielder Fabio Carvalho during the summer transfer window.
After lengthy discussions on Monday, there was a breakthrough in discussions just hours before the transfer deadline, with Liverpool agreeing to buy the playmaker and loan him straight back to the Championship leaders.
However, time ultimately ran out, leaving Liverpool without a player who they have identified as one for the future and Fulham at risk of losing one of their most prized assets for nothing at the end of the season.
According to The Mirror, the clubs and player remain intent on the same transfer occurring in the summer, and there is an option where both teams can proceed with the fee that they agreed on Monday.
That is likely to suit all parties, with Liverpool wary of a tribunal setting a higher fee and Fulham aware that foreign clubs can still hold talks with the 19-year-olds regarding a free transfer.
Real Madrid have been linked with Carvalho in the past, Los Blancos joining Liverpool in being impressed by the prospect's performances for the Cottagers.
